Why Pilates?

"The Pilates Method of Body Conditioning develops the body uniformly, corrects posture, restores vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit."

Joseph Pilates

PILATES OVERVIEW

A mind-body exercise that provides daily conditioning, promotes whole body health and develops mental awareness to optimize your personal performance.

Origin,1960s: named after German physical fitness specialist

Joseph Pilates (1880-1967), created and developed the system, originally called ‘CONTROLOGY’.

The Pilates method offers a wide range of benefits that positively impact not only your physical health but also your mental well-being and daily life. From reducing stress and anxiety to enhancing muscle tone, flexibility, dynamic stability, core control, balance, coordination, strength, and the ability to perform Activities for Daily Living (ADL), Pilates can greatly improve your overall quality of life.

It is not just an exercise routine but rather a transformative movement practice that becomes part of your body's daily nourishment routine!

Functional Rehab, strength & conditioning. Restoring mobility, flexibility, and dynamic stability for efficient movement.

Functional rehabilitation is a specialized program designed to help individuals regain full activity levels, whether they are athletes or not. For athletes, this means progressing from basic activities like jogging to more intense sport-specific exercises. For our general population, this could mean returning to their daily activities!

Contrary to traditional exercise routines focused on weight management or muscle building, Pilates for rehabilitation centers around each person's unique needs.

The main goal is to improve overall mobility and stability to strengthen weak areas and restore balance and function to the body. Pilates offers both short-term benefits by enhancing current abilities and long-term advantages by gradually preparing individuals for more challenging movements.

Pilates exercises can be adapted to be weight-bearing or low-impact depending on the injury, weakness, or discomfort.

Pilates addresses how each part supports a joint to prevent further strain by considering the body as a whole.

The core principles of Pilates, such as breathing, concentration, flow, and precision, focus on the quality of movements to promote effective rehabilitation.

While traditional beliefs may suggest that rest is the only option after an injury, inactivity can be harmful to our overall health. Pilates for rehab encourages gentle and progressive movement to maintain physical activity. Unlike conventional forms of exercise or therapy that may be too intense for those recovering from injuries, Pilates provides a safe and gradual approach to rehabilitation.

Modifications to the standard Pilates exercises are necessary to accommodate individual needs during the healing process.

What our clients are experiencing

“I have much more confidence in moving around when exercising as I know now the safe and fun way. Upper body movements in class have encouraged me to loosen that part of my body daily in a way I enjoy. Lot less stiff especially in my lower back when I do regular movement class. Bending down, kneeling the right way! Lot less stiffness (I have AS as well as back and neck problems). The way I think about exercising has changed and a massive change is that I always enjoy doing the class and feel physically looser, my whole body and most muscles have been worked safely – a general sense of feeling physically better. Sore muscles from spasms great relief often. You have such wonderful bubbly energy while we move, your way of talking, whistling, and explaining what to do, how to do it, and the reminders of doing things the right way looking after our problem areas. Classes are designed by you to target a wide range of muscles and body areas. You care about the people and what you do….it shows”
Heather C.

“I am aware that certain exercises help loosen and lessen my stiff and aching lower back. I know what they are and do them when I am feeling achy. I feel stronger in my body. I love how my body moves now…even more so now than when I was younger. With age and moving in your class, I have come to value my body. I also understand things better about my body and why we move the way we do. I also like how you marry mindfulness, meditative quotes, and movement. You are not just about the body but also about the spirit/soul and feeding the mind.”
Shirley B.

“I have NO more lower back pain since doing Pilates and can lift a bucket of water with no problem. Can now curl up without a bolster. At my age, continued mobility is major, so that is what I appreciate, as well as muscles that remain supple. And I have increased core strength, as well as over the shoulders. Your experience, knowledge, and constant quest for new info and ways of exercising, and making it fun.”
Wilma V.

“I was very skeptical about switching to Pilates after 10 years of yoga but I was thrilled from day one. You are such a warm and inviting person and you made me very welcome. I was and am still amazed at the variety and number of different exercises that you use again and again. I practically never have back pain anymore – I am more body-conscious – I pay more attention to my posture. After each class, I feel very relaxed, more balanced, and refreshed. Your enthusiastic and positive attitude is contagious. I appreciate your observational skills in modifying the exercises to suit me. You are extraordinarily knowledgeable about the body and its functions. You are such an encouraging instructor.”
Ursula G.

“I enjoy the classes very much, you tune into me vs. the routine you had planned I am much more in tune with my body, I got to know it better and discovered I love my body I love moving my body to music, never knew I like it so much. You always put a smile on my face. You are extremely knowledgeable about the body and how it functions. When I am finished with my class I feel my body suppler, and mentally I feel more upbeat. You always point out my progress and my positive attributes.”
Trudi Z.

“Sometimes it is difficult to see how one has improved until you stop for a while and start again. Then you realize what Pilates and movement do. Your smile and energy are contagious. I can also sleep on my back now. My core is stronger so I use it well and correctly. My posture is SO much better. Better quality of life. Better back support. Less stress.”
Ryan K.

“You lift my spirits and sort out my body. I am amazed how you can read my body as to what we need to do this week just by asking me how I am doing and what I have been up to. My Body Whisperer!”
Jeanette E.
